Viking

The Viking Cycle company was started by Mr. A.V. Davies in 1908 in Heath Town, Wolverhampton. He acquired a reputation for building quality machines for road and track racing, and by the outbreak of the 2nd World War in 1939, Viking was a well known and successful builder of racing cycles.

In 1947 AV’s son Victor was running the company and started a road racing team. Success followed success and in 1951 Viking mechanic Ian Steel won the inaugural Tour of Britain and the 1952 Warsaw-Prague-Berlin race.

The Viking team dominated races throughout the 1950s and bike sales were at an all time high. The 1960s saw a decline in the UK cycle industry due to the availability of cheap small cars and in 1967 like many cycle manufacturers at the time was forced to close it’s doors.
