Torpado
Torpado was founded in 1895 by Carlo Torresini in Padua Italy. The name derives from Torresini & Padua...
From the 1930s onward Torpado’s top-of-the-line racing cycles had beautifully crafted frames with routed out dropout faces, internal rear gear cables, shaped and engraved lugs & bottom bracket shell. The signature/team colour was called "Celeste." Not the green "celeste" of Bianchi, but a light turquoise-inclined pearlescent blue, more true to the meaning, "Sky Blue."
The family run company grew steadily and by the late 1940s it had become the 2nd largest bicycle manufacturer in Italy. This growth allowed it to sponsor professional road racing teams and operated a motorcycle manufacturing division until the late 1970s. During this time they were also the contract builder of Italvega bikes.
The Torresini family owned Torpado until the early 1980s when they were bought by the Agrati-Garelli corporation.
Shortly thereafter, around 1987, bicycle production ceased.
In 2001, the Torpado brand name was acquired by the Cycles Esperia Group of Cavarzere, Italy, which also owns Bottecchia, Graziella and Fondriest.
