Soens

James Soens opened his first racing bike business in Liverpool in 1895 which continued until 1914 when he volunteered for service in the Great War. He survived unscathed and had four sons, one of which, James (Jim) opened his own cycle and frame building shop in Liverpool in 1936.

Jim’s brother Eddie became Britain’s leading cycling coach and opened his own shop - Eddie Soens (SoenSport) Cycles in 1957 also in Liverpool with his son Bill. Frame builders for the shop were Eddie’s brother and son Bill.

Eddie’s shop closed in the 1990s but Jim’s shop continues to this day under the name of Pete Matthews Cycles.
