Pela

Giuseppe Pela, was the unsung frame builder for many Pro riders including Anquetil, Van Loy & Bobbet between the late 1950s and early 1970s working out of his small workshop in Torino.

He was the builder for all of Merckx's Faemino team bikes for the 1970 season.

‘Pela' did not want anyone to know what he built. At one race, Pela and Giuseppe Scapola saw Jacques Anquetil, they said hello and Pela told Scapola afterwards that Anquetil's bike had a bottom bracket height 2 cm. higher then normal; so as to pedal through the turns. Asked how he knew, Pela' laughed and said he knew because he had built the frame!"

Guiseppe Pela never put his own name on any frame, probably to not interfere or conflict with the business interests of the teams and riders he built for.
