Moser

Professional road racer Francesco Moser began building racing bicycles in a small workshop in Trento, Italy in1979.

As a rider one of his greatest achievements was to break the 1972 hour record set by Eddy Merckx. In 1984 The record was made on an aerodynamic bike which no one had seen before. It had oval steel tubing and disc wheels, so his record of 51.151 km in one hour was widely discussed.

The bicycle which caused this discussion was made by his own company. In 1987 the ‘Francesco Moser 51.151’, which was named after his record, went into production.

At that time Moser's frames were unique among Italian racing bicycles for being fillet brazed using silver solder and thus bicycles constructed in this manner do not need to be reinforced with lugs, thus reducing the bicycle's weight.
