La Varesina
1959
Built for local racer Roger St Pierre. This bike was designed by Roger and Vic as a tribute to the rider Roger regarded as the most important of the era, Fausto Coppi. It has decals of Bianchi, (the cycle manufacturer Coppi was most associated with), Fiorelli, (who built Coppi’s own team bikes) and Paris Roubaux, (the gruelling race both Fausto and his brother Serse had won).
The model name, as hand written on the down tube and head badged is ‘La Varesina’ (of Varese), being home of the classic Three Valleys Race which Coppi won three times and where in 1953 he first met Giulia Occhini, ‘The White Lady’ who famously became his mistress and then second wife.
The frame is in original condition and was equipped with Campagnolo Record group set with Roger’s favoured bar-end shifters, Mafac Racer brakeset and Brooks saddle.
